By rivers, plants used to be more abundant and lively when my mother was younger, but since then, El Salvador's water sources have grown to be contaminated due to pollution from industrial sites and waste. Specifically, my mom recalls the flor de cambray (Cosmos caudatus) which has disappeared near some rivers she used to visit when she was younger because it is now unable to grow due to contamination. Access and safety of water has also diminished since she was younger.
