Reforming Agriculture & Ranching

Agriculture and ranching account for roughly 16% of global ghg emissions and cover 34% of land on Earth.

Croplands account for 10% of global climate emissions and currently cover 13% of global land. Less than 2% of all cropland is organic.

Livestock and Pastures directly account for 6% of all climate emissions, 15% when counting supply chains and processing. Pastures currently cover 21% of global land.

Over 30% of agricultural lands have been degraded or abandoned.

By reforming farming and ranching, and changing our diet, we could reduce and absorb up to 40% of climate emissions, and return over 15% of agricultural lands to protected areas.

Regenerative farming could reduce and absorb 15% of emissions while increasing crop resilience and yields, and improving food security and biodiversity around the world.

Regenerative ranching and increased woodland pastures could reduce and absorb 17% of emissions, rebuild soil on overgrazed lands and increase biodiversity in pastures.

By wasting less food, shifting our diet, and improving yields we can restore degraded lands to native forests, grasslands, and wetlands while absorbing 10% annual ghg emissions and preventing 60% of expected extinctions.
