Personal memory by Joseph Piscotta
1950 • Abruzzo, Italy
My grandfather fled Italy during the mid to late 30's when the Nazis were taking over. He saw the green pastures and the big rolling hills of Abruzzo turned to fire and smoke. He died in 1948 and was never able to return to his home country. However, my uncle who fought in WWII went to Italy and took part in a massive environmental clean up in order to forget and clean up the damage caused by the Nazis.
