Personal memory by Rupu Lala

When I was an infant I was raised in Kolkata- a fast growing metropolis that was rapidly swallowing the hinterland, I remember hearing the sounds of hyenas and jackals near what were the suburbs at the time, but now has become part of kolkata's central districts: buildings now occupy the open fields and wetlands I remember. I also recall the many tiger pelts proudly hanging in the residences of socialites - inherited from the british colonial era - those are not so readily displayed today.
