"The only penguin to inhabit the African continent, the population of the African penguins is dwindling at an alarming rate. Numbering 222,000 in the late 1970s, their number dropped to 72,000 adults in 2007 because of commercial fishing, climate change and oil spills due to coastal development. Without our help, up to 51% of the remaining African penguins could disappear from the continent within 20 years."
