I used to go to the beach on a daily basis. The sun would beat down along the blue, clear ocean water. All until the water started turning brown. It was then people would say stay away from the ocean and rivers within St. Lucie county and Martin County. What happened was heavy rainfalls caused Lake Okeechobee to overflow. They released the contaminated water into the St. Lucie River and Indian River Lagoon which had then killed many species.
