Personal memory by Paige Erickson

I grew up going to Rocky River in the Cleveland Metroparks. We would turn over rocks searching for crayfish, find frogs and minnows, and discover all the different wildlife and plants in the area. We can still do this, but I see the river and the landscape fading. Enormous bridges drain directly into the river and garbage lines the riverbed. If the river floods, the water become so contaminated it is dangerous to swim in for a few days and dirty foam makes the edge of the river stink for days. I hope we can save it and keep the ducks on the shore and the minnows in the shallow pools.
