Personal memory by Kason W

I remember hiking 40 miles over eleven days around Jacob's Chair, through what was left of Bears Ears National Monument after its boundaries were reduced by 85% by President Donald Trump. The reduction removed protections from the area against fracking and oil and mineral drilling. Our group even experienced some contaminated water during the trip. Luckily, the monument was restored in 2021 by President Joe Biden. We learned how to make backcountry pizza, read topographical maps, and slept under the beautiful Utah night sky.
