Coral Reefs Need Our Help

Personal memory by Rebecca Hormozi

2018Guantanamo, Cuba

Last Christmas, I took a trip to Guantanamo Bay to visit my dad that was stationed there for a year. I was so excited to go and explore the beaches he lived next too. Before leaving, I looked at many videos of the beautiful coral reefs and exotic fish they had. However once I showed up, I was a little bit disappointed by what I saw. The coral reefs were nearly dead and the fish population was lower than normal. All over the world coral reefs are dying at an alarming rate. Cuba is known for its flourishing reefs; so seeing this in person really made me upset. Our ecosystem has been threatened, and we need to do something to change that!
