Aquatic Devastation

Personal memory by Ross Morris

2006Sarasota, FL, USA

I grew up on the water in a Florida community, so naturally fishing was a favorite pastime of mine. At the age of 9 I was catching an impressive number of highly sought after fish like Snook and Red Drum. A particularly bad flare of red tide, a plankton species that blooms and kills sea creatures, occurred when I was about twelve years of age that covered every inch of the ocean's surface with dead sea life. The smell of decomposition was overpowering, and my family had to leave for a time so we didn't get sick. Since then, I very rarely catch fish in the neighborhood I grew up in.
